New Dressmaking pattern releases

We've been busy uploading lots of new patterns to the website this week.

See some of the newest pattern releases below and check out my top fabric picks for them.

French Brand Deer and Doe have 2 new Spring time makes for you: Luzerne, a classic trench coat perfect in a bold floral cotton sateen and Hoya, a cross front blouse that would be so useful in a simple ivory crepe. Both ideal for sewing right now.

Deer and Doe Luzerne Trench Coat (Advanced)

The lovely Jenny at Cashmerette patterns has come up trumps again with this summer staple. The Springfield, an excellent simple top that would look great in a floral cotton lawn.

New to us is the brand Sew House Seven, the designers behind this winter's big pattern hit the Toaster sweater! Make a spring version of the sweater in our Lightweight knit in bang on trend bottle green. Pair the sweater with this twist on a classic pencil skirt. The Alberta Street features giant hip pockets, a lovely detail and made in our Indigo stretch denim you will wear this all year round. The Bridgetown backless dress is a simple summer dress that works perfectly in drapey fabrics like our viscose challis

Sportswear Fabric - Sew Your Own Activewear!

Did you get inspired by the Marathon on Sunday? Ok, maybe you just fancy a pair of funky leggings to throw on to nip out and get the paper. The Athleisure trend doesn't seem to be going anywhere, so whatever your motivation why not have a go at making your own activewear.

We've just had some new breathable stretchy sportswear fabric arrive at Fabric Godmother, it's limited edition, so once it's gone we won't be getting any more in. The plain colours mix and match with each other, perfect for colour blocking.

Plain Sport breathable poly spandex in Navy, Royal, Sky Blue, Black, Flo Coral and Flo Yellow
£10 per metre.

These digitally printed jerseys are perfect for a pair of funky leggings, wear them with a pair of trainers and head to the gym, or stick on a pair of heels and they would look just as good at the bar!

Here are my top pattern suggestions for Activewear.

We also stock Powernet, a soft mesh lining perfect for activewear and our Jersey lining fabric in Ivory and Black.

The Chiffons & Satins you Need in your life right now!

This is the time of year when beautiful envelopes start to fall on the door mat. Wedding invites, garden parties, a day at the races.... Time to start planning your summer stunners if you want to stand out in the crowd!

This range of chiffons and silk mix satins in bold digital prints are just what your summer event wardrobe is crying out for! Think floor length sweeping dresses, pretty beach cover ups and stand out party dresses all ready for when the invites arrive. Butterflies, birds and pretty florals will make up your summer staples this year.

I would love to see this made up into a floor sweeping maxidress like the Saltspring worn over jeans for the ultimate in 2017 street style. This year it's all about the sheer dress.

Imagine a beach friendly pull on dress like the Sudley in this eye catching butterfly print, it will fold up super small in your luggage and take you from beach to bar in no time.

I can't help but dream of this made into a stylish Kimono dress, those birds are totally dreamy and the soft grey background make this easy to wear if you don't want to be the brightest dressed person at the party.

These have a touch of exotic about them in a beautiful Chinese inspired print. Make a stunning Yaletown wrap dress with a swishy skirt in this fabric and you will feel a million dollars!

A luxurious fabric like this works with the simplest of patterns. A Kanerva shirt in this silk mix paired with a plain midi skirt is the perfect separates outfit for this summer.

A delicate floral deserves a pretty pattern. Make a paneled dress complete with godets like Sophia in this pretty floral fabric.

Stretch Cotton Sateen - Perfect Spring Patterns

Stretch cotton sateen is a fabulous fabric to sew with in spring and summer. It's got enough body to make a pair of trousers, skirt or a dress. Bright prints and a little bit of stretch for comfort, what more could you ask for? Stretch cotton sateen is also a great fabric for beginners to sew with, it's nice and stable but the 3% spandex means that you can be a little more forgiving with your fitting.
