We've just restocked some of your favourite all time fabrics. Missed out first time round? Don't worry, you've got a second chance to get your hands on these beautiful dressmaking fabrics.

Our Mustard denim would make a perfect Autumnal Arielle pencil skirt, add some stand out buttons for a bit of added bling!

Let your inner rock chick out in the Studded Ponte Roma Jersey, a Sweater dress is just the ticket to keep you warm as the temperatures begin to drop.

I am a huge fan of scuba (It's ideal for beginners who want to make an impact as it's really easy to sew with). A simple Sweatshirt will let this floral design sing.

The Avid seamstress got it right making the City Trousers in a black & white Floral stretch sateen like the Claire fabric.

A bold floral jersey deserves a classic Silhouette, make the Olivia Wrap Dress in our red Meredith Jersey.

Wool Jersey - soft, snuggly and super warm. You want these!

Say hello to our 2 new Wool jersey ranges.

Isabella is our popular wool and viscose mix jersey now in 3 fantastic new colours to add to the Black, Gunmetal and French Navy. Violet, Teal and Red are all vibrant wearable colours to add a little pop to your wardrobe. Make a long sleeved tee shirt in this super stretchy drapey jersey. It looks fabulous when colour blocked, is machine washable and wears really well. (Trust me I have made multiple tops and dresses in this fabric for me  and Mr Fabric Godmother) Ideal as a tee shirt like the Agnes top from Tilly & The Buttons or why not make a man in your life a tee shirt using the Thread Theory Strathcona Henley pattern?

Emily is a slightly thicker and fuzzier wool rich jersey in a soft palette of Pink marl, Grey marl and Black. This cozy fabric would be super snuggly as a Sewaholic Renfrew complete with cowl neck.

Printed Chambray and Pattern Inspiration

Chambray is a lightweight cloth woven with a white weft and a coloured warp.* This means it always has a white selvedge and has a lovely faded look to it.
*(the weft is the fabric that runs left to right across the roll of fabric and the warp runs along the length of the fabric.)

These new printed chambrays have cute anchors and spots on them, making them ideal for a grown up shirt dress, a man's shirt or use them to make fun kids clothes.

Tilly and the Buttons Rosa dress is perfect for a printed Chambray, try the Spot Chambray in blue for a cute shirt dress to wear all year round.

Fancy doing some selfless sewing (Brownie points for making Christmas presents) make a man in your life the Negroni shirt in this Tiny Anchor print chambray.

Ditsy Anchor chambray is the prefect fabric for little people, it wears well, is soft against their skin and hides dirty marks well! I love both the Gathered dress and the Carousel dress.

Patterned Viscose Crepe - Just Arrived From Italy!

I think viscose is a bit of an unsung hero when it comes to fabrics. This Italian crepe is no exception!
Viscose is made from wood pulp making it a natural fibre, this means it is very breathable and more comfortable to wear than cotton.  It also takes colour very well so you can get some really vibrant prints on viscose. Good quality viscose also has a wonderful drape and plenty of weight to it.

These autumn viscose crepe prints are ideal for a Shirt dress, a pair of culottes or a stylish shirt.

Wouldn't this geometric Cubic print be stunning as a Sew Over It Vintage Shirt Dress?

If you are feeling really daring, the Mimosa culottes from Named Patterns would be so striking in the blue and red version of the Cubic viscose crepe. Pair with a simple white shirt for maximum impact.

The Dahlia dress's pretty gathers would drape beautifully in the Pansy crepe, I really love pretty florals on a dramatic dark background and this dress is the perfect way to show them off.

I have always been a huge fan of Tilly. Her very first pattern the Matilde Blouse is a great wardrobe staple, a version in the Navy Pansy print would go just as well with dark jeans as with a bright red pencil skirt.

Add a Touch of Sparkle with our Brocades and Lurex Ponte Roma Jersey

***Warning this blog post contains the C word***
Sparkle is for life not just for Christmas! Ohh ok it looks extra super amazing at Silly season but there is no reason you can't wear sparkle everyday in the run up to Christmas (psst 75 days if you are counting) Especially if you choose one of our more subtle metallics.

Our Lurex Ponte roma jersey has a subtle sparkle that just gently catches the light. Go for pale and interesting Tinnes in coral and gold, or in your face red and black Bamboo with silver. Perfect for a sweater dress or a party sweatshirt.

Our brocade is Italian Ex designer and you can tell by the way it sparkles! Make any simple dress pattern come to life with this wonderful fabric. Try the Veronkia or the Emery for inspiration. Available in Silver and black floral or Gold and grey snakeskin.

We have got our fantastic metallic Faux leather back in stock. Did you see my gold pencil skirt?? The wonderful soft metallic sheen makes this faux leather really wearable for day or evening. Keep things simple in a pencil skirt or a little jacket. In Silver or Gold.

Faux Leather -Gold

From Soft Silks To Tough Denims. We've Got Your Autumn Sewing Covered

Last night I drove up to Bristol to see The Kills playing live. Watching Alison Mosshart strut about on stage affirmed what I already knew. She totally owns the 'Silky shirt and rockstar jeans combo'.

Back at my computer today googling photos of Alison (go on have a go) in almost every shot she is rocking this combo.
If you, like me, want to have a go at recreating this cool look then have a peek at our new Italian ex designer silks. In a palette of soft neutral tones through to darkest bottle green our Mara lightweight silk would be beautiful made up into a feminine shirt like the Archer.

Toughen the look up with pair of super skinny Ginger jeans in our Stretch denim in Super Black.

Named Patterns - Outstanding New Collection

Named patterns have really raised the bar with their newest pattern collection. Evolution Theory contains shirt dresses, beautiful tailoring and the most modern split hem oversized jumper. Add to this the BEST tunic dress I have seen to date and you have a wearable, trend driven wardrobe just waiting to be sewn up. For any of you who have previously sewn with Named patterns the best bit is that they have started adding seam allowance to their patterns so no need to add these at the cutting out stage. See the full pattern collection here. Or scroll down to see my top picks with fabric suggestions.

Helmi is a sweet blouse or tunic dress pattern. I think this is my favourite pattern from the collection and I would make it up in simple Gunmetal Prestige crepe or for a more dramatic version use the Afleur crepe in grey.

Pilvi coat dress features a fabulous double breasted fastening. Made in comfy roma jersey this is the perfect 'look smart but feel like I'm wearing my dressing gown' dress. Our Rose roma jersey would add a feminine twist and our Andi stripe jersey would strike a bold statement.

Sointu Kimono Tee is a great beginner project. Take you outfit from the office to the bar with this simple tee in jersey in Black scuba. I've selected the Paume jersey for a more relaxed patterned version.

The Talvikki oversized sweater features a split hem and a darted turtleneck. Pick chunky Ouzo boiled wool for super cuddles or use a 2 Tone scuba to make this sweater sleek and sophisticated.
