PAY DAY - TREAT YOURSELF TO FABRIC AND A SEWING CLASS

The Grainline studio Scout Tee is hands up my favourite pattern at the moment. you can make so many versions it is really versatile and a great project for beginners to dressmaking.

My current fabric suggestions include the Citie cotton voile as seen in the wonderful Scout above made by Zoe Edwards from the great blog SoZo

Wanna know the best bit? Zoe is teaching you how to a Sew A Scout Woven Tee at our Studio in Hove on the 20th March and we still have a few places left. Book your place on the workshop here

This Regatta Stripe cotton sateen makes a great layering version, stick it over a black polo neck for a bit of structured style

Why not go for a cute bird print? Flite cotton voile fabric is literally flying off the shelves (I am so sorry)

For a luxurious touch you could use a silk like the Grange silk crepe de chine

I have made so many versions in all kinds of fabrics. It is a fab wardrobe staple that is so different in each fabric. Here is some of my collection...

(sorry both of these fabric have now sold out but there are sooo many option for this pattern!)

NEW PATTERN COMPANY - THE AVID SEAMSTRESS

There is a new pattern company on the block! The Avid Seamstress, otherwise know as Lisa a stunningly creative dressmaking teacher, who has launch a capsule range of patterns.

There are 2 grown up dresses and a fabulous pair of trousers that I am really dreaming about. Plus 2 mini me dresses for girls aged 3-8.

The Day Dress it that perfect combination of a fitted bodice with a gathered waist. Pockets are an added bonus! I think our linen mix would be lovely in this pattern and you could have one in every colour.

The Sheath Dress is that go to everyday dress, dress up and make it in a stunning floral like the Diane Peachskin or dress down in a simple denim version with our 4oz denim.

The City Trousers, slim fit with a flattering back zip. Would be adorable in our Plaure silk or the Laura spot stretch cotton sateen.

For the Raglan Dress and the Gathered Dress a cute Lena spot poplin or our Bonnie tartan would be ideal for this cooler weather.

KIMONO JACKET

How beautiful is this dark floral kimono jacket I made?? It is super comfortable to wear and has a glamorous casual feel about it. Glamorous casual? Is that even a thing?? A kimono is perfect for layering at this time of year and instantly dresses up a pair of jeans and a jumper. In the summer you can wear it over a vest and a pair of cut of shorts...Oh the summer!
I used our Ramone viscose & linen mix fabric. This has a lovely textured finish but doesn't have the crease issues of pure linen. The drape and weight are just perfect for this type of garment. The pattern was a freebie (very awesome) from love Sewing Magazine issue 19.

If you fancy a go at making your our kimono try one of these beautiful linen and viscose mix prints...

KIDS SWEATSHIRTS (MINI ME)

Surprise surprise! I have been making sweatshirts again...  OK, I know you have seen plenty of my sweatshirts before, but this time they are mini versions that I made for my 2 adorable nephews and my God daughter this Christmas. Plus, because I didn't want my brothers to be left out I also made grown up versions for them.

For the grown up versions I used the Seamwork Paxon pattern. Buy the PDF pattern here
The tiny sweatshirts were the Oliver & S Field Trip pattern which you can buy here. It comes in 2 sizes ranging from 6 months to 12 years, so no matter how old your little ones are there is a pattern to fit them.

The fabric I used was our Roma jersey. It comes in loads of amazing colours, is super soft and washes really well, essential for kids clothes! (see all the colours here
The bicycle version is the Bike It organic jersey from Birch available here

The best bit is that these snugly little jumpers take less than an hour to make. So you can have your little ones and loved ones toasty warm in no time! So what are you waiting for? Order fabric and patterns now!

TOO COOL FOR SKOOL KITTED FABRICS

When the little snowflake logo starts to appear on my weather forecast app I know it is time to layer up and snuggle down in a cosy cardi.

I am not a knitter (but it is on my things to achieve in 2016 list). So the prospect of me clacking those needles and knitting up anything in time for this winter, let alone in time for this cold weekend we have coming up. But there is a way to cheat yourself to a home knitted cosy cardi!

Our knitted New Skool wool is made from 90% wool and comes in 2 classic colour combos. Navy and grey and Claret and grey. I used a kimono pattern that came with an old Issue of Love Sewing as the basis for my Cosy Cardi. But you could easily trace round a favourite cardigan or jumper to make your own pattern. I made mine with an overlocker, but you could just as easily use a sewing machine with a shallow zig zag or stretch stitch. Just make sure you finish those seam allowances otherwise your Cardi will start to unravel before you have even got Netflix loaded.

TARTAN WOOL CAPE

I’m thrilled to have one of our gorgeous winter fabrics featured in Sew magazine this month. Clan tartan is a striking wool that Sew magazine have made into a cape with front buckles. Look at the back of the cape, that is truly beautiful pattern matching. A cape is a comfortable and practical way to keep warm this winter. Think super stylish poncho, check out these photos...

Buy Clan Tartan here.

The cape would also work marvellously in our Maite check wool. Buy here.
