Floral Prints to Get Excited By....

These new florals are bold and brave. Be prepared to make a floral statement.

Our popular Master velvet has just arrived in this new Blue colourway. The Inari pattern is designed for jerseys so would be perfect for this fabric.

A dress as elegant as the Dahlia dress deserves a beautiful crepe with plenty of drape. The Darcy crepe does just that and the dark midnight blue background is a great alternative to black

Digital prints don't get much better than Pansee jersey. A lightweight jersey with lots of stretch, float about in a dress like the Tuuli for a comfortable bold statement.

This Rose print viscose has a lovely vintage feel to it, perfect for a Shirtdress and at only £8 per metre it is great value.

The pretty draped sleeves on the Mathilde blouse would work beautifully in the grey version of the Rose print viscose.

New Prints Now In Stock! Florals Everywhere.

Thanks everyone who has given me feedback about the recent blog posts. I'm so glad you love it when I match up pattern suggestions with the fabrics and that it's helping you imagine what to use the fabrics for when planning your own makes.

We just have had a whole bunch of new floral fabrics arrive. Here is the first selection, of course I have added my pattern suggestions for each one.

The new Named pattern collection features this unusual blouse with trench coat style lapels. Make a pretty feminine version in this Spring Serenade brushed cotton featuring birds and flowers.

Can you imagine a pair of pyjamas more beautiful than these teal ones featuring birds and flowers? The Evening Roost cotton lawn would be so stunning as a pair of Rosalind Pyjamas from Sew Me Something.

It is no secret that I LOVE the City trousers from The Avid Seamstress, they are so versatile and can be made in so many fabrics, Mandy stretch cotton sateen is a great dark floral perfect for brightening up a winter outfit.

If you are more of a dress girl then use the black Mandy stretch cotton sateen to make a figure enhancing Charlotte dress and let the pattern do the talking.

This Border print cotton poplin features antique roses on a black background, add to that the quirky spotty border and you could make a fab statement dress using the Mortmain pattern from Gather.

As we get closer to the shortest day, my wardrobe becomes more and more jersey based. I just want to be super comfy. Especially once silly season really kicks in and you need some lounge wear to slip on in between all those parties!

Check out our latest jerseys, all ideal for indoor living.

This Mercerised cotton jersey in plum has a such a lovely soft finish, made into Carolyn pajamas I don't think I would ever take these off.

Our Milano jersey is so popular. Made of a mix of 97% viscose and 3% elastane is is really soft with plenty of stretch and drape. We have just added 3 new colours. Olive, Emerald and Burgundy.

If you want to brighten up your loungewear try one of our new printed jerseys. Choose between a Blue animal print, Cerise with pop parrots or a Tropical leaf print.

Make everyone green with envy this party season in Fabric Godmother's pick of the best bottle green dresses and partywear.

Kiera Nightley looked stunning in this slip dress in Attonement, create your own piece of timeless elegance using the Elizabeth gown and our Crepe backed satin in dark bottle green. Perfect for that fancy christmas do, or just wear it to do your grocery shopping, a dress this beautiful should not be hidden.

A cute take on the velvet trend, a body hugging velvet jersey dress in Carlotta Teal, use the Nettie pattern to follow your curves. Ideal for after work drinks.

Love a jumpsuit? Who doesn't? The Ailakki jumpsuit would look great for a night out dancing in the Chica Bi-stretch suiting in bottle. The stretch in this fabric will mean it keeps on feeling comfy till well past midnight.

New Arrivals - Fabrics to keep you warm this winter

Now that the temperature has finally dropped below 0, it is time to ramp up your winter warmer wardrobe. Wether it's a big puffer jacket to brave the chilly breezes or cozy loungewear if you can't face stepping outside your front door. We have it all covered.

(All images and sources from Instagram where I have a special Quilted Dressmaking Inspiration board, I also seem to have been pinning lots of snuggly clothes to my personal Dressmaking Inspiration Board)

This printed quilted nylon features Owls, Roses and Hummingbirds. A truly stunning Italian ex designer fabric that would be a fabulous Clare Coat.

I love the idea of a longline quilted bomber jacket. This dark Olive Green Quilted Nylon is just perfect. Simply lengthen a jacket like the Mai jacket and add some of our Olive Ribbed Cotton.

Imagine a super snuggly sweater dress, the  Terry Backed Sweatshirt fabric in the Batwing dress, perfect with a mug of hot chocolate and the latest episode of The Young Pope.

This all black outfit, giant oversized sweater with skinny jeans, is a classic. Talvikki in Black Fleece Backed Sweatshirt fabric would make a great snuggly jumper to keep you warm and looking stylish.

Colour blocking is a big fashion 'thing'. Make a Fraser Sweatshirt with a mix of White Terry Jersey and Claret and Grey Marl Fleece backed sweatshirting.

Cleo...The Cutest Pinafore Pattern Has Arrived

Tilly is the Sewing gift that keeps on giving. Her latest pattern launch is a cute pinafore dress called Cleo. She has a fab Pinterest board full of ideas and inspirations on how to make and style your Cleo. See the board here.

Here are my top fabric picks for the Cleo. (all images and links from Pinterest)

How utterly adorable is this kitten version? Our Pink stretch denim could be given eyes and a nose with some felt and black thread. C.U.T.E

For an evening Luxe version use this dark Cotton velvet and wear over a gold tee shirt!

I love the Baby Pink Velvet and what better pattern than the Cleo to show it off!

For a vintage and versatile Pinafore stick to a dark denim like the 8oz washed denim in indigo.

Or for a more neutral look the Raw denim in natural is a winner.

Sew La Di Da Vintage....A sophisticated new Vintage pattern brand

Sew La Di Da Vintage, as the name suggests, is a fantastic vintage inspired pattern brand. I met the vibrant Caroline at The Handmade Fair and instantly fell in love with her passion and style.
Beautifully designed and packaged patterns. They have a strong vintage influence yet are very wearable at the same time. Ideal for making a Christmas party wardrobe.

The Margo playsuit has an optional Princess seam bodice (bought separately) made in our Black designer lace bonded scuba it would look really striking.

For a more preppy look choose the Vintage Blitz pattern made in our Wine prestige crepe with a contrast navy collar.

Why should the girls get all the fun when it comes to party dressing? I think this Mr London waistcoat in Olive Praed wool would look very handsome.

This flattering Vintage Rose party dress with inverted pleats would be made all the more glamourous in our Wine Cotton velvet. Try adding lace detail into the pleats for the ultimate luxury party dress.

A fantastic full skirt, perfect for swishing across the dance floor. Vintage Sweetheart in our sumptuously soft Claire cotton sateen would make a statement party dress.

Velvet....Perfect for all occasions!

I'm having a bit of a velvet crush at the moment. The latest trend can be worn day or evening and looks great as a slouchy pair of trousers or a fitted dress. I've put togther a few sewing sums using velvets and my inspirations to wear them. Want to see some more stunning velvet ideas? Pop over to my Pinterest board.

See all of our velvet fabrics here.

A pair of slouchy velvet trousers is right at the top of my velvet lush list this Christmas, I will be wearing them with trainers by day and adding heels at night! The Alexandria trousers and Damson Velour is the winning combo!

For a pop of velvet how about adding a baby pink jacket over a black polo neck and a pair of smart black trousers? Use the Grainline Morris pattern with our Cotton stretch velvet in baby pink.

Like your trousers a little more tailored? The new pattern from Named, Tyyni cigarette trousers would be sublime in this Wine stretch cotton velvet.

Got a party or 2 to go to? How about a velvet skater dress? Use our Velvet jersey in a bright wine to make a Moneta dress to really stand out in a crowd. Easy and eye catching!

Finally, add a bit of pattern to your velvet with the Masters floral print velvet, use simple pattern like the Agnes to show off the design and make it ideal everyday wear.

Also, check out the Velvet Grecian dress in Last Decembers Love Sewing magazine that I designed!

Italian Designer Wools - Get yourself winter ready

Now it's November we can officially start talking about WINTER! It's even getting a little bit colder out there today.

Have you started planning your 2016 winter wool coat yet? Before you do, make sure you have a look at these ex designer boiled wools from Italy.  Fair is super thick for added warmth and can be used either way round to show off the softly felted boiled side or the yummy chunky knitted side.

Fair Wool in Grey would make a super snuggly duffel coat using the Walden from Colette Albion pattern.

Cozy up in the I AM Patterns Artemis Coat using the Olive Fair Boiled Wool, imagine using the contrasting sides for the trim!

I LOVE an asymmetric jacket and the Harriet Lumberjacket is perfect for the Chocolate Fair Boiled Wool, try using the contrast sides for a subtle collar detail.

We have also added a range of boiled wool coatings with added viscose for extra softness. In a soft winter colour palette focusing on tones found in nature. (Clockwise from top right Gold, Chocolate, Kingfisher, Aloe
