Time to get cozy in a coatigan! See our wool knit selection

It is September tomorrow, yes I know, how did that happen???
This means a few things in our house...
  • The leaves have already started to fall in our garden and pretty soon the ground will be a beautiful carpet of gold, yellow and orange.
  • Memories of brown legs and summer glowing skin will fade quicker than you can say 'freckles'
  • Evenings are getting shorter, which leads onto the best bit...
  • You can legitimately start sewing cold weather clothes *does a little dance*
I'm currently dreaming of open fires, country walks and a super long cardigan. You know the one, kind of a cross between a coat and a cardi also known as a 'coatigan'.  The type of garment you can throw on in the evening as the sun's warmth begins to fade, then wear every minute you are awake inside the house in January.

As I luuuve to do, I was scrolling through Pinterest for some ideas and pulled together a board of inspiration. Take a peek, you may find your dream coatigan in here.

Obviously I wouldn't be sharing all this with you if I didn't have a collection of amazing knitted wools to also share with you. All Italian Ex-designer fabrics, these cuddly creations will have you wishing for wellies, bonfires and hot chocolate in no time!

Dark Floral Viscose Prints - Italian A/W '16 runway designs

Almost every designer featured a moody Midnight garden print in their A/W '16 runway collections. Victoria Beckham's showed us bright florals on black in sporty shapes. Balenciaga and Mary Katrantzou sent models down the runway in floaty mis-matched head to toe florals.
Check out my Pinterest board for a collection of dark floral inspirations.

These viscose fabrics have come straight from Italy and the A/W '16 collections.  As with many of our ex-designer fabrics we only have limited stock of these designs. All of these dramatic floral designs are printed on a top quality viscose with a slinky twill finish. The most wonderful drape and vibrant colours make these beauties unmissable.

New Autumn Suiting Fabrics - Now in stock

Have you started planning your Autumn wardrobe yet? I've started and I want all of these new suiting fabrics in it.
Tailoring is a big trend for AW '16. Lines between masculine and feminine blurring with boxy suit jackets, cropped trousers and over the knee skirts seen at design houses such as Burberry and Margaret Howell. Think part British countryside, part school uniform and part Dandy.
Take a twist on the normal with subtle flashes of colour in your suiting. The best bit? All of these suiting fabrics are only £8 per metre.

Nancy is a cotton and wool fabric in black shot with a rich red. Release you inner Dandy in a pair of slim fitting trousers and a boxy jacket.

Pernod is a classic grey and light blue pinstripe with a twist. Woven in cotton with a slightly disheveled finish this fabric would make a brilliant pinafore like the Beatrice.

Ican stripe is a black and navy suiting fabric that I would love to see made into a pair of wide legged trousers like these.

Byrdes has a small birdseye pattern in blue and black. Make yourself a Joan dress for the ultimate in 40's glamour.

Why not make yourself a dark shirt to go with your new suit in our navy poplin or black cotton lawn?

If casual is more your thing then we have also added this super snuggly fleece backed sweatshirt fabric that has just arrived. In a wonderful claret colour it jumped straight to the top of my autumn colour palette.

Viscose, Silk, Cotton Lawn and Wool. The latest Italian fabrics to arrive..

These beautiful Italian prints just keep on coming. I can't get enough of this latest batch, great to add to your transitional wardrobe, perfect to take you through the hazy last days of summer to those warm early autumn evenings...

Paume jersey is a soft viscose jersey with a large fern print on it. The delicate colours of this make it a wonderful neural to take you into Autumn. Make a simple T shirt and wear it with pride.

Suma is a Silk noil, the texture of this fabric makes it really tactile and the soft pastel design would transfer beautifully into a simple dress or skirt.

Zahlia viscose crepe conjours up images of a 1940's style tea dress. Large soft focus flowers on a fawn background, another perfect seasonal transition fabric.

Petto is a pretty cotton lawn with a black background, make a jumpsuit in this fabric and feel fabulous.

Lai is a light weight woven wool fabric with a large leave pattern on an oatmeal background. This would make an attention catching full skirt.

Fiammi features a vintage 1930's matchstick print on a slinky viscose jersey. I defy anybody not to lust over a wrap dress in this fabric.

Vintage 1960's chambray and other new fabrics

Yesterday I brought you a fabulous collection of vintage Italian silks, today it is a hoard of French chambray dating back to the 1960's.  These wonderful cotton chambray bolts were discovered in the back room of a little French shop. Many of them still on their original bolts and all woven on the old narrow looms.

I think they would make the most beautiful shirts (what they were originally destined for) or how about an Emery dress with contrast collar and a neat bow?

As with the silks I only have 1 bolt of each colour and when they have gone that will be all. These fabrics are all 100% cotton and are 70cm wide. They are also only £5 per metre, so be quick if you want to grab yourself an exclusive French vintage bargain. See the full collection of vintage fabrics here.

Check out the other new fabrics just added...

Tile cotton lawn devorĂ©, this white fabric would make a super little top, or why not make a classic white shirt with a twist. Only £5 per metre.

A silk and cotton blend voile with a fantastic coral print, enough body to make a lined dress, or keep it sheer as a blouse or kimono. Empera is only £6 per metre.

We have added 2 lovely soft tulles to the range. In Ivory or a soft Silver grey, dreamy tutus for girls big and small or a classic veil would be great in this super wide (280cm) fabric, only £4 per metre.

Vintage silks - Very exclusive!!

Every now and then I come across a real treasure, this time it is a collection of vintage Italian silks. I discovered these beautiful fabrics during my last visit to Italy in June. Forgotten about in a storage room for years they were finally found and here they are ready for you to turn into a vintage dream...
These printed silks are all scarf weight (some even printed as square panels) making them ideal for a light blouse or shirt. Or why not go for it and make a fabulous shirt dress.

At only £14 per metre these really are a treasure, however with only 1 roll of each design, I don't imagine they will be around for long. Find them, all here.

My Kimono

Kimonos are a huge trend this year, pop one on over a little top and jeans and you instantly feel glamorous (even if you are just going to Sainsburys).

I made mine using the Suki Kimono pattern (only available as a class) and the Ottanta viscose crepe.

The fabric was very lightweight, moved about a fair bit and frayed easily so I used French seams and hand-stitched the front facing. I also lengthened the pattern a bit to make a more flowing kimono. If you want to learn how to handle lightweight fabrics and make your own Suki we still have a couple of places left on our Suki kimono class. It's on the on the 21st August at our Hove studio, if you want to join us book here

Here are some other fabrics that would make a beautiful Kimono.

Carrie viscose crepe

Pidi Ikat woven viscose

Meadow stretch viscose

Blossom viscose

Butterfly viscose

Chase the blues away with our new fabrics

We're sure you're going to love this magnificent collection of denim, chambray and other fabrics in shades of blue. All of them are ex designer fabrics from Italy and are superb quality. Rich in colour with the most wonderful handle, you won't want to miss these.

Ringo Linen in a rich indigo colour. The subtle circle design adds a point of interest to this luxurious fabric. It would be wonderful made into a Helena Dress.

Brani Denim jacquard is a textured medium weight denim. I would make a short Lottie dress with pockets using this fabric.

Sweet printed Chambray. Select either Stragazer with small stars on an Indigo background or Adore, a lighter blue dotted with tiny hearts. Cute as an Alder shirtdress or make a mini dress with the Carousel pattern for girls.

Gallo is an incredible cotton mix jacquard. A wide zig zag design that would be stunning as a simple lightweight jacket like the Cordova.

Linen denim we have had in stock before so I am really pleased that we have managed to get some more. A heavy linen, simply perfect made into a Beatrice pinafore.
