As a nation we have a passion for a striped T shirt (along with our French and US cousins) the casual style is timeless (see my breton post for inspiration here)

If you fancy something stripey then we have had some fabulous new striped jersey fabrics arrive recently and here they are..

Raya is a viscose and spandex jersey in a stretchy T shirt weight. Available in yellow, pink or navy this fabric is ideal for simple tops, leggings or pull on dresses. Or how about a draped cardigan to pull on over your summer dresses when it gets a bit chilly? (we do live in England!!) This pattern from MIY Collection is perfect.

Also now in stock is this amazing (designer end of roll) Marin terry jersey. Terry jersey has a looped back and is the perfect summer jersey. use it to make a sweatshirt (my favourite is the Linden from Grainline studio see my versions here)  or a dress like the Coco from Tilly & the buttons or how about a cool pair of shorts like the Alexandria ones from Named.

We have had some more beautiful cotton lawns and poplins arrive over the past week. Here are some of my favourite and some suggestions of what I would sew with them. To see the full range pop over to the website, I would love to hear what you would make with them...

I would use the large scale floral Laurdes to make a pair of the Named Alexandria peg trousers

With this amazing Circo cotton lawn (super soft high quality designer fabric) I would make a Bettine dress, it would be so light and airy perfect for just slipping on when the comes out!

Tsar peached cotton poplin would be lovely as a Cambie dress from Sewaholic, one for intermediate sewers perhaps so you can pattern match the stars!

Lastly this dark floral cotton poplin Olio would make a great Brumby, wear it now with a cami then team it with tights and a jumper in Autumn.

So what do you think of the pattern choices for these fabrics? Would you make anything different?

The lovely Sewaholic have released not one but two fabulous shirt dresses.
The first one is the Nicola with a pretty v neckline and a subtle collar, this dress would look wonderful in a soft floaty fabric like our Inverso viscose or Coccinelle spot viscose.

Secondly the Harwood dress is a clean button up dress with a gathered yoke and waist. I would make this in our Stanley seersucker checked cotton ideal for warm days or Linen Chambray.

Are you a sew alongist?

When Colette patterns launched the Aster blouse I was smitten, a simple everyday top with pretty variations. It is described as an intermediate pattern so should not be too much of a challenge for me as I have a fair bit of sewing under my belt. However I have decided to join in with the sewalong. I have never done a sewalong before, always been a bit of a rebel dressmaking going my own way and figuring it out as I go.
But more and more recently I have realised that there is a lot that I can learn and improve on by taking some direction and guidance from others. By doing so the clothes I make are better, as in I finish them properly and they fit me better. As a result I wear them more. Pre Me Made May I didn't wear my handmade clothes that much as I always thought I preferred the RTW clothes I in my wardrobe.  But wearing things that I had made that didn't look handmade and people complemented me on, the penny dropped. I also find my sewing much more enjoyable, less unpicking for a start and certainly less frustrating. OK so it has taken my 37 years but I am finally learning to listen to other people!

If you want to join the sewalong click the button at the bottom of the post. If you have not yet got your copy of the Aster blouse you can buy it here. If you want to see how my sewalong is going follow me on Instagram where I will post updates.

Our favourite sewing bee Tilly from Tilly & The Buttons has just released 2 more wonderful patterns!
This time I think she has hit the nail on the head for summer loveliness.

Bettine is a simple daydress, the kind of dress everyone needs on their wardrobe, a few times over. A dress that you can just throw on and know you look fab. Keep things easy by sewing Bettine in a pretty cotton such as our Chambray (available in blue, pink and grey) or the Penzance cotton lawn.
If you feel up to it why not challenge yourself a little and sew Bettine in a pretty georgette or crepe like the Ola georgette or Kisses crepe de chine.

Fifi is perfect for lounging about in at the end of the day and slipping into a sweet sleep. Cheeky, fun and a little bit sexy.
Fifi is a cool camisole and shorts sets with bias trim. Use a pretty floral cotton such as Ella cotton or if you fancy something a bit more slinky the Fiori Rosa silk is made for this pattern.

Our latest range of end of roll designer stretch cotton sateen and viscose jersey fabrics have a real seventies vibe about them. Tonal colours in graphic prints are reminiscent of the recent collections from Prada and other designers who are riding the seventies trend this year.

Loto has an amazing deco inspired lotus print design. The stretch cotton would be wonderful as an A line skirt, or even a 2 piece suit (Ohhh yes matchy matchy)

Loto green available as both viscose jersey and stretch cotton sateen
Loto red available as both viscose jersey and stretch cotton sateen
Loto purple available as viscose jersey only

Tramonto (which is Italian for sunset) has gentle waves in tonal colours, I think the viscose jersey version would make a stunning wrap dress.

Tramonto brown available in both viscose jersey and stretch cotton sateen

Tramonto blue available in both viscose jersey and stretch cotton sateen

Tramonto purple available as viscose jersey only
