Another day another peplum

Peplum top

I may have mentioned this once or twice but I LOVE a peplum. Seeing Handmade Jane's blog about the Roma jersey got me thinking....Peplum tops don't have to be all shiny and smart, how about a nice snuggly peplum?

Mimi G did a lovely version of Vogue pattern 8815 in Cheetah denim, I have made this pattern before in Hermione fabric but I wanted mine to be a bit more cosy this time round.
The Roma jersey is ideal for this as it has quite a bit of body to it meaning that the peplum sticks out enough! This fabirc is also lovely and warm to wear in this freeeezing weather we are having. As I was using a jersey fabric I left out the zip at the back and just stitched all the way up the back seam, making sure that I used a stretch stitch to attach the peplum at the waist and round the neckline so I could get the top on. (Make sure that you cut the fabric the right way round so the stretch goes round you)

As ever at some point I had to tackle the tricky curved hem, this time I opted to hand sew it, having tried a few different techniques, stitches and needles this was the best result.
I also drafted a facing for the neck rather than using the bias binding method in the pattern as I think this is a much nicer finish.
