I am just crazy about Polka dots this summer (see last blog The Scottish Wedding) and am really exctited to see them popping up all over the catwalks and the high street.

polka dot trend, kirsten dunst dots, alexa chung dots, emma stone dots

I think polka dots are a really exciting way to brighten up the (rather damp and miserable) Spring we are are having.
Even if you are a black addict you can still wear polka dots, though I do reccomend a spash of bright colour to perk it up. My favourite is this fabulous red Rouge d'Armani lipstick in 405

Take a look at these fabulous polka dot fabrics...................

Well I'm off to my own Polka dot party............................

The Scottish Wedding

So the wonderful invite arrived (in a golden tin) to a glamorous wedding in Scotland...on 31st March?? Arghhh what to wear, won’t it be snowing in March? Or it will be pissing down with rain? At the very least freezing cold, it is Scotland after all? I know! My vintage mid-length raspberry crepe skirt with the thick navy pussy bow shirt  I made last year, topped with a faux fur cape. Snuggly and stylish and not an inch of black in the outfit, perfect!

Then as the date drew closer I realised that the weather was turning and we may well be faced with glowing sunshine and champagne on the lawn. Wonderful for the bride and groom, not so perfect for the thick crepe and faux fur ensemble. A serious change of outfit tactic was needed, now I was not going to get carried away, it was still Scotland and it was still March.

2 days before we were due to drive north I was flicking through a copy of RED Magazine and saw this inspiration!

Retro styling, ¾ length sleeves, nipped in waist and polka dots that was what I needed...

I found the perfect pattern Colette Peony and the perfect fabric Laura spot stretch cotton in navy

Cutting out the fabric using various sewing accessories and weights

The final dress on the grand staircase of the wedding venue, luckily the sunshine came out and we all had a wonderful day.

Bright Young Things

With summer peeking out from behind its murky cloud I decided it was time to start on my first summer sewing project.....a fabulous bright blouse to wear with jeans and a pair of killer heels. There are loads of tops like this in the shops at the moment these are some of my favourites...

Clements Ribeiro £285 from Net-A-Porter

Preen £235 from ASOS

Sass and Bide £190 from Net-A-Porter

I started off with Toulouse cotton lawn and Vogue pattern 1128...

(sadly Vogue have now discontinued this pattern but Vogue patterns  1170 1247 8798 or Colette pattern Sencha are all similar)

Basting the neck detail (use a brightly coloured thread so it’s easy to take the stitches out afterwards)

The finished top (hanging off my lovely retro kitchen cabinet)
